When people share common experiences, values, thoughts, feelings and a common attachment to symbols, they indeed form a cohesive culture.

Albion Reunion and Picnic Day on Saturday August 7th, 2010 had all the above characteristics and more. In excess, four thousand Albionites congregated at Baisley Recreation Park in Queens,New York for an afternoon of "Hello, How are you? ,Where were you? and other hilarious reminisces.

On this sun-drenched afternoon the crowd kept rolling in onto the spacious acreage of lush, green grass bordered rectangularly by symmetrically canopied maples.

A bisection of the age-streached, colorful and civil gathering found attendees coming from Canada, California, Florida, Washington, Maryland, Iowa, Ohio, Guyana, various parts of New York and the Tri State area.

The varied program designed by the dynamic Planning Committee was anchored by yours truly Aslim Khan and ably assisted by Ann Ramoutar and Dave Sieunarine. Dev Chedda controlled the athletic events that included track and field, lime and spoon, bag race, hoola-hoop, and many other events. Among other planners were Bobby Roopram, Mahesh Sankar,Than Singh, Jagroop, Sew Shivnarine and Committee Chairman Billy Sahadeo,  oversaw the successful execution of the planned agenda. Saheed Amin, also a member of this elite body of organizers, was instrumental in providing us with corporate sponsoring through Habib American Bank,an ethnic entity, that will soon have a branch in Richmond Hill,Queens. Other notable sponsors that contributed extravagantly to our noble cause were Dave Naraine (Saloo"s son) from Citi Title and Ken Bisember from Powerline Auto Collision.

The highlight of the afternoon was a tassa dancing competition which had many participants. Also, voluntary live renditions came from maestro Peter Das along with Sita Panady, Son Son and local Lata Mangeshkar Roopdai Etwaroo.

The senior citizens of Albion were identified and presented with monetary awards for which they were very delighted. Among the ten recipients were four Octogenarians.

Also, recognition awards were allocated in areas of Sports, Education and Humanitarian services. Dr Bhoj Ramkumar and Dr Jagat Lalla were posthumously recognized in Medicine and Education respectively. For Sports, Zamin Amin and Sudesh Dhaniram prevailed with distinction while Mustapha Ally, Shamnarine Harripersaud and Billy Sahadeo were rewarded for their unselfish gestures to Humanity. Professor Paul Erriah, decorated with three Masters Degrees and a PhD in Political Economy, snatched the award for Academic Achievement.

The penultimate event was the raffle which casted twenty aptly prized displays that included a 32" flat screen color TV. The TV was won by the wife of one of our committee members, Bibi Farida Shankar, who begged that the TV GO BACK IN THE POOL. Guess what? Someone who was in high contemplation of purchasing a TV won it. Thereafter, an interlude of soothing DJ music ensued kind compliments of Kam Jagroop"s son and the entire Jagroop family.

The contented crowd, many of them well plastered, after expressing their sound gratitude and pleasureable thoughts ebbed into the twilight and then darkness which quickly climbed in on us.

                           ------------the  rest  is  history  ------------------
